Rambunctious Rvengers
The new delinquents
So as the never ending seasonal storm of shows rages on, we get this great work of two genres which have nothing in common, the time travel and the delinquent genre. Tokyo Revengers is the rambunctious love child of these genres.
So at the beginning, when I saw the trailer for the anime, I was not really captivated. To experience the story, I just looked up the manga and read 2 chapters and just slept on the show. That was until i saw the 4 or 5th episode of the anime, the true nature of the show had been revealed. This was what got me to watch the show and read ahead in the manga.
the story
The story follows Takemichi Hanagaki, a loser in his late 20s, who’s middle school girlfriend, tachibana hinata, gets killed by a gang. After a near death experience, Takemichi is transferred into his 13 year old delinquent self. He relives his past and vows to save everyone in future by climbing the ranks of the same gang that killed his girlfriend.
What I love
The 2 main things I love about this show are its main character and the supporting cast. Takemichi is not your typical delinquent, he seems to have the looks down, but he lacks the fists to be a true delinquent. He overcomes his weakness through his fearlessness and the urge to protect his friends.
The supporting cast is one of the closest group of friends I have seen in anime, even the villains of the show were at one point friends with someone in the cast. Every single character has their own unique stories which are really interesting and shows us how everyone and their friends were affected in their past. This just makes all the connections between characters much closer and sort of real to the audience.
