Anime just like Among Us

 Astra Lost in space

As the infamous game Among Us sweeps the internet in a tidal wave destroying what was left of Fall guys, many of you might be left wondering, is there a show out there?. And I give you, friends, a show that’s the exact gameplay of Among Us, Astra lost in space.

What is it all about?

The show revolves around team B5 from Caird high, each year there’s a student only trip to the planet McPa where they stay for a week, mere moments after landing on the planet the students are attacked by a strange phenomenon and left stranded in deep space. The students board an abandoned ship, the Astra, and begin their 5000 light-year journey home across uncharted space where they cross several planets and overcome challenges that test their friendship. Similar to the game, the students realize they are part of an assassination plot. There is an imposter among them watching, learning, and eventually killing.

Who are the characters?

The characters include the self-proclaimed meat-head captain, Kanata, the young scientist, Zach, the tsundere doctor, Quitterie, the weird biologist, Charce, the cheerful, Aries, Quitterie’s cute little sister Funicia, the mischievous artist, Luca, the antisocial, Ulgar and the shy, Yunhua. The show has a generic pattern, where on every episode they land on a planet and each character is thrown into conflict and the main character for the episode helps the team get back on their journey home. Additionally, each episode shows the characters’ backstory, while revealing their personality and traumas of their past. The characters in the show immediately get you hooked, especially with their diverse identities.

Yay or nay?

Overall the show has a great narrative with well-built characters, making it challenging to identify the imposter. While the majority of the show is filled with unexpected twists and turns (don’t let it get the best of you), there are instances when it gets predictable.

Personally, I think that the show tries way too hard on the jokes, and losing its humour along the way. Other than that the show is interesting and you learn so much about the world they live in. The shocking reveal near the end will make things more clear on why they are on an assassination plot. The world-building (history of their world) is a little confusing, and you might have to watch that episode (episode 11) twice. The art style is cool and the character design is really good, especially with the portrayal of the characters’ personalities in a glance.

The series is exactly what Among Us fans and others would like to watch. There are 12 episodes in total, the show aired last summer and as of writing this review, there are 8 episodes on youtube that are free to watch. I would totally recommend this to anyone who is just getting started on anime or is deep into the otaku culture.
